Witness the only local battle of the American Revolution! On May 21, 1775, a skirmish broke out on Grape Island, then owned by the Hingham loyalist Elijah Leavittt. This engagement is what many call the “second” battle of the American Revolution, falling one month after the Battles of Lexington and Concord and one month before the Battle of Bunker Hill.
The Hingham Militia, Wareham Militia, and the 64th Light Infantry will reenact this pivotal moment.
Ceremonial remarks, historic narrative, music, and refreshments will be provided. Encampment and demonstrations follow the commemoration.
Parking is available in the Bathing Beach and Station Street lots.
