SUMMARY:Sharing the Spirit of America: Community Reading of the Declaration of Independence
DESCRIPTION:Help make Hingham history!  As the bells ring from Hingham’s Memorial Bell Tower\, gather at the Old Ship Meetinghouse on July 8 – 250 years after the Declaration of Independence was first publicly read – to join a nationwide synchronized reading of America’s founding document.  The bells will ring at 5:30 PM; the formal program begins at 6:00 PM.  Readers will include Hingham leaders drawn from across the community to honor this historic moment. \nConsider walking to historic downtown Hingham with your friends and neighbors – as they would have in 1776!  A reception will follow the reading at the Hingham Community Center\, at 70 South Street. \nFor those with accessibility needs\, dropoff is available through the Hingham Cemetery\, at the gate behind the Memorial Bell Tower.  Limited nearby handicapped parking is available – those with a need should contact the Art Robert\, Assistant Town Administrator\, at 781.741.1541. \nFor more\, see our event video composed by Harbor Media\, or visit hingham250.org. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Sail Boston's Parade of Sail 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Grand Parade of Sail will highlight the day’s activities as vessels parade in flotillas from Broad Sound into the main channel of Boston Harbor turning at Charlestown\, before proceeding to their assigned berthing areas. Public viewing of the parade will bbe spectacular from many shoreside sites\, including Castle Island\, the Seaport District\, the Boston Waterfront\, East Boston\, the North End\, and Charlestown.  For more on viewing options\, see Sail Boston’s Interactive Harbor Map. \nOn Saturday July 11th\, the MBTA is offering special ferry service from Hingham to Spectacle Island.  Tickets can be purchased exclusively at the Hingham ticket office (28 Shipyard Dr\, Hingham\, MA 02043) weekdays 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM and weekends 8:00 AM to 9:009 PM while supplies last.  Riders must specify what time they will depart from Hingham and what return trip they intend to take from Spectacle Island.  Passengers will be expected to pass through securing prior to boarding the ferry.  For prices\, schedule and more information\, see MBTA’s press release. \nOn this day\, all regular commuter ferry service will be suspended.  A special ferry schedule will restore Hingham service after 5:00 PM. \nThe Parade of Sail kicks off a week of events including public boarding of ships\, the Sail Boston Festival\, and fireworks on July 11 and July 15.  For more\, see Sail Boston’s Schedule of  Events web page.
